Getting Started with SlipNet on Android

Updated 4 Oct 2026 2 min read

This guide takes you from nothing to a working SlipNet connection on an Android phone or tablet. It takes about ten minutes, plus a few minutes for a resolver scan if you're in Iran.

What you need

  • An active PremierVPN VPN plan
  • An Android phone or tablet
  • The free SlipNet app (Step 1)

Step 1: Install SlipNet

  1. In the portal, go to Anti-Censorship › SlipNet and click Download APK. This opens the official SlipNet releases page on GitHub.
  2. Download the latest APK file to your phone and open it.
  3. If Android asks, allow your browser or file manager to install unknown apps, then tap Install.
If GitHub is blocked on your network, ask someone outside the country to download the APK from the official releases page and send it to you. Don't install SlipNet from unofficial sources.

Step 2: Activate a server in the portal

  1. Go to Anti-Censorship › SlipNet.
  2. Under Connect to a Server, click Activate on a server. You can activate more than one.
  3. When it's ready, the server shows Connected, your username and password, and a list of Connection URIs grouped by protocol.

Each URI is labelled socks or ssh. VayDNS URIs also show their DNS record type. Start with the socks versions.

Step 3: Import connections into SlipNet

  1. On the SlipNet page, click Copy next to a URI. Start with VayDNS or NoizDNS, which the page marks as recommended.
  2. Open SlipNet on your phone and tap +.
  3. Tap Import from URI, paste the URI and tap Import.
  4. Repeat for a few more protocols. We suggest at least VayDNS, NoizDNS and DNSTT, so you can switch quickly if one stops working.

Not sure which to use? See Which Protocol Should I Use?

Step 4: Find working DNS resolvers (needed in Iran)

In Iran and other countries that filter DNS, the default resolvers are often blocked and the tunnel can't start. Scan for ones that work on your network before you connect:

  1. In SlipNet, go to Settings › DNS Resolver Scanner.
  2. Select Scan IR DNS Lite.
  3. Wait for the scan to finish. It usually takes a minute or two.
  4. Use only resolvers marked E2E Passed.

For more detail, see How to Find Working DNS Resolvers and How to Set Your DNS Resolvers in SlipNet.

Step 5: Adjust VayDNS settings (needed in Iran)

If you're using VayDNS from Iran, open the VayDNS profile's settings and set:

SettingValue
Resolvers ModeReliable
Query Length131 bytes
Client ID Size2

Step 6: Connect

  1. Select your profile, for example vaydns-socks.
  2. Tap Connect and wait a few seconds. DNS tunnels can take a little longer than a normal VPN to start.
  3. The first time, Android asks whether SlipNet may set up a VPN connection. Allow it.
  4. A key icon appears in the status bar when you're connected. Open a website to check.

If it doesn't connect, try another protocol you imported, then see Troubleshooting SlipNet Connections.
