Your VPN password is used with your VPN username for third-party and manual connections: IKEv2, OpenVPN, Cisco Secure Client (AnyConnect) / OpenConnect, and routers. The PremierVPN apps don't use it; they sign in with your account email and portal password.
Change your VPN password
- Sign in to the client portal.
- In the sidebar, under Account, click Settings, and scroll to VPN Password. Your VPN Username is shown here too.
- Enter your Portal password (for verification). If you signed in with Google or Apple in the last 30 minutes, this box isn't shown and you can skip this step.
- Enter your New VPN password and type it again in Confirm new VPN password.
- Click Change VPN Password.
The new password works from your next VPN connection. Devices that are already connected stay connected until they reconnect.
Password rules
- 8 to 64 characters.
- Letters, numbers and only these symbols:
! @ # $ % ^ & * ( ) _ + - = - Don't reuse your portal password. VPN systems need to store the VPN password in a form they can check directly, so keep it unique to PremierVPN.
After you change it
Update the password everywhere you've set up a manual connection: the IKEv2 profile on your phone or computer, your OpenVPN client, Cisco Secure Client or OpenConnect, and your router. Until you do, those connections will fail to sign in.
Signed up with Google or Apple?
If your account has no portal password yet, the VPN Password section asks you to set one first. Set it in Portal Password on the same page (see How to Change Your Portal Password), then change your VPN password.
Common questions
Why does it ask for my portal password?
To make sure it's really you before changing how your devices connect. Signing in with Google or Apple in the last 30 minutes counts as the same check.
I don't see a VPN Password section
You'll see "You don't have an active VPN account" if you don't have an active VPN plan. VPN credentials are created when a VPN plan becomes active.
Where's my current VPN password?
On your Dashboard, in the Your VPN credentials card, click Show. See Understanding Your VPN Credentials.
