Aliases are extra @prmail.uk addresses that deliver to your PrMail inbox. This guide shows how to create and manage them, and how to use anonymous identities for sign-ups.
Why use aliases
If you use one address everywhere, one data breach exposes it to every spammer and data broker. Give each service its own alias instead. If an alias starts getting spam, you know who leaked it, and you can pause or destroy that alias without touching your main address.
For example, if your address is [email protected], you might sign up to a shop with [email protected] or a random alias like [email protected].
How many aliases you can have
- PrMail Pro (including PrMail included with a VPN plan): 5 aliases.
- PrMail Business: 20 aliases.
- PrMail Free: no aliases.
The Email Aliases section in Settings shows how many you've used, for example 2 / 5. Paused aliases still count.
Create an alias
- Go to PrMail › Settings and scroll to Email Aliases.
- Click + New Alias. (The button only appears while you're under your limit.)
- Optionally add a Label, such as "Amazon" or "Newsletter", so you remember what it's for.
- Either type a Custom address and click Create Alias, or leave it blank and click Generate Random for an address made of 8 random letters and numbers.
Custom addresses follow the same rules as your main address: 3 to 32 characters, using letters, numbers, dots, hyphens and underscores, starting and ending with a letter or number.
Manage your aliases
Each alias in the list shows where it delivers, its label, any spam reports and whether it's paused.
- Pause: the alias stops receiving mail. Use this to cut off a service without deleting the address.
- Resume: turns a paused alias back on.
- Spam: records a spam report against the alias. After 5 reports, the alias is paused automatically.
- Destroy: permanently deletes the alias. This can't be undone.
Pause or destroy? A destroyed address is released, so it could later be registered as an alias by someone else, who would then receive anything still sent to it. If a service might keep emailing an address, pause it rather than destroying it.
Anonymous identities
For sign-up forms that ask for more than an email address, PrMail can generate a complete made-up persona: a name, username, date of birth, gender, city and country. If you have a PrMail mailbox, each identity also gets its own random alias that delivers to your inbox.
- Open Anonymous Identities.
- Optionally add a label and choose a gender (or leave Random gender).
- Click Generate Identity.
- Click the arrow on an identity to expand it. Use the copy buttons next to each field, or Copy All Fields.
You can regenerate the name, location, date of birth or username on their own, change the label, or Delete an identity. Deleting an identity also removes its alias. The page shows how many identities your plan allows.
Identity aliases appear in your alias list with the label "Identity: (name)", and they count towards your alias total.
Use generated identities for privacy, not where the law or a contract requires your real details, such as banking, travel or official forms.
