Send-time randomisation holds each outgoing email for a random amount of time before it's sent. This guide explains why that helps and how to turn it on.
Why it helps
Someone who can watch your internet connection, and also see when emails leave a mail server, could try to match the moment you click Send with the moment an email leaves our servers. Adding a random delay breaks that link in time, which makes this kind of timing analysis much less reliable.
Most people don't need this. It's useful if you have reason to think someone is trying to connect you to the emails you send.
Turn it on
- Go to PrMail › Settings and scroll to Send-Time Randomization.
- Tick Enable randomized send delay.
- Choose the longest delay you're happy with: Up to 1 min, 2, 3, 5, 10 or Up to 15 mins.
- Click Save.
Each email is then held for a random time between 1 minute and the maximum you chose.
Things to know
- When you click Send, you'll see "Email sent successfully" and a copy appears in your Sent folder straight away. The email itself leaves our servers when its delay is up.
- You don't need to keep the page or your browser open. The delay is handled on our servers.
- You can't cancel or edit an email once you've clicked Send, even while it's waiting.
- Emails with attachments are sent immediately, without a delay.
- Secure Messages are sent immediately, without a delay.
- The delay changes when an email is sent, not what it contains or who can see it.
